The Box Garden

This is a big moment for our household. It's been a huge project in the works since last year...and finally... it's done!   Well, I guess it'll be officially done when we start harvesting the goodies... but still...we have a veggie garden!  All the credit goes to my hard working husband and father-in-law.  While I was enjoying the Lake Erie coast with my mother-in-law and friend { here.}  Matt and his dad were busy digging and planting in the yard.  It was a nice surprise to come home too...and I'm so grateful for all their hard work!

The garden box itself was built by Matt back in April and basically sat in our backyard empty all this time.  We have this rabbit that kept coming back there to scope it out...but there was never anything in it. lol   Matt put up a chicken wire fence around it so that the rabbits don't take advantage of all their hard work! It's located directly behind our new shed...which is still being painted {more on that later}.   There's still room back there for one more box... maybe next year!

We now have growing: Onions, Green & Red Bell Peppers, Tomatoes, Dill, Cilantro, Cinnamon Basil, Jalapeños, Cayenne Pepper, Peppermint, Oregano and Banana Peppers!

Now we just need to finish painting the shed so we can attach gutters for the rain barrel!
Can't wait to start picking!

  1. How cute! I love the box garden concept. We have a few things growing in pots and a flower box in our back yard. I was not initially very excited about gardening but it was actually kind of fun and it's nice to have some herbs for cooking.

  2. Oh how fun! So glad to see that everything came together so nicely.

All the herbs will make a huge difference in the way you cook too. Though watch out, that oregano will overtake your entire garden if you aren't careful. And it looks like that cilantro is ready to go! [don't forget to reseed after you cut]. Yumm-o!

  3. i love it! omg, what i would do with all those herbs! so delish! i need to get on with some planting ... the weather is perfect for it right now.

  4. Wow, now that is impressive! I would love to have a garden that looked like that! You are going to enjoy at all summer long!

Ps--thank you for stopping by my blog!

  5. Wow! I am so jealous! it looks great...I really need to just dive in and get our garden started.

  6. hello, first time on your blog, love the garden, nothing better than your own herbs and veggies!
